How to Carpool with FasTrak Flex®

The Toll Roads do not offer carpool discounts on our facilities, but our accountholders may be eligible for a frequent driver discount. We do offer our drivers transponders that allow qualifying carpools to take advantage of free or discounted rates on participating toll facilities.

With FasTrak Flex transponders, carpooling is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

FasTrak Flex Switchable Transponder

On participating facilities, drivers may need a FasTrak Flex switchable transponder to be eligible for free or discounted toll rates. These transponders have a small black switch that can be moved to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Prior to starting each trip, it is the driver’s responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+).

Sticker transponders can be used to pay tolls on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California. But on some facilities, toll-free travel is only available to drivers who have a switchable transponder. Drivers with a sticker transponder can use the facilities, but they will pay the full toll regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Drivers with a sticker and switchable transponder in their vehicle will not be charged twice when traveling through a toll point. The system assesses the toll based on the setting of the switchable transponder.
