Carpooling With FasTrak

The Toll Roads do not have carpool discounts, but our FasTrak® accountholders may be eligible for a frequent driver discount. However, some of California’s tolled facilities, qualifying carpools and other select vehicles are eligible for free or discounted toll rates.

To be eligible for free or discounted toll rates, drivers may need a switchable FasTrak transponder (also called FasTrak Flex®). Switchable transponders have a small black switch that can be moved to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle. Prior to starting each trip, it is the driver's responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+).

Sticker transponders can be used to pay tolls on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California. But on some facilities, toll-free travel is only available to drivers who have a switchable transponder. Drivers with a sticker transponder can use the facilities, but they will pay the full toll regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Drivers with a sticker and switchable transponder in their vehicle will not be charged twice when traveling through a toll point. The system assesses the toll based on the setting of the switchable transponder.
